Lorenz Patten claimed a first IMS victory in Belgium, winning the D0 race for Williams after starting second.
Cloud finished second for Mercedes from third on the grid, while Zopz advanced from eighth to third for Red Bull.
Three podium places, seven positions gained
Patten and Cloud each improved by one place. Zopz supplied the larger recovery with five, making the podium a compact study in three different starting points rather than a procession copied from the grid.
Cloud's 23 points still increased the D0 championship lead to 62. The Mercedes driver left Belgium on 120, with Karl Verghese second on 58.
Williams wins the race; Mercedes keeps the table
Mercedes remained first in the D0 constructors' standings on 166 points, 56 ahead of Williams on 110. Patten's breakthrough therefore changed the weekend's winner without yet changing the season's leading team.
The lasting Belgian image is straightforward: a driver beginning one place short of pole and finishing with no place left to gain. The wider tables could wait; this was Patten's first line in the IMS winners' book.
