Fourth becomes second in one round
VCARB entered Spa fourth in the D2 table and left second. The 37-point gain moved it past two teams and to within one modest scoring difference of the lead.
McLaren's zero did not remove it from first place because the existing cushion was 39. It did convert Austria from a defence of comfort into a direct two-point contest.
The round table understates VCARB's divisional damage
VCARB scored 43 combined BOTT points and sat outside Spa's top three teams, one behind Aston Martin. Inside D2, however, its 37-point addition transformed the championship.
Austria now carried a simple team equation: McLaren 115, VCARB 113. Spa had done the difficult part by turning a distant chase into arithmetic visible without a calculator.
