Ranga20063239 finished Season 1 as D2 champion on 118 points, 22 ahead of tofo17 and 27 ahead of jakebandy8. Sixth place in Austria supplied the 16 points that completed the campaign.
FTR Button won the finale from fourth on the grid. Tofo climbed from fifth to second and Webbah87 finished third, so the race podium contained neither Ranga nor Jake.
The challenger gains, but not enough
Tofo scored 23 points for second and ended on 96. Jake took 14 from seventh to finish on 91. Ranga's 16 were fewer than tofo's but sufficient because the championship arrived in Austria with a margin already built.
Ranga's season had moved through second at Brazil, victory at Monza, a one-point defeat in the table after the Mystery Race and a restored lead at Abu Dhabi. Austria was the point where that sequence became a title rather than another provisional order.
VCARB takes the other D2 championship
Tofo's second place helped VCARB finish first in the D2 constructors' standings on 149 points, 11 ahead of Ranga's Aston Martin. The drivers' and constructors' titles therefore split between the leading protagonists.
Austria gave D2 three answers, not one: Button won the race, Ranga won the drivers' season and VCARB won the constructors' table. A finale can resolve an argument without pretending it was ever singular.
