Aban-96- won the Monza D2 race from pole for Williams, ahead of Bahrain winner WSL Klunkyboi. Two rounds had produced two winners, yet Klunkyboi remained first in the championship.
Trident65 completed the podium for McLaren after climbing from ninth to third. The six-place recovery was the largest among the top three and added a third team to the result.
A defeat that protects the larger prize
Klunkyboi's second place lifted the Ferrari driver to 56 points. Aban's victory moved the Williams challenger to 39, leaving a 17-point difference rather than an immediate change of leader.
Ferrari also retained the D2 constructors' lead, 94-76 over Williams. Aban won both the race and the weekend's headline, but Klunkyboi's result limited the championship damage in both columns.
The rivalry acquires a second reference point
Aban owned the Monza result; Klunkyboi retained the larger season total. Singapore would begin with the points still decisively tilted toward Ferrari's driver.
That is the distinction the standings preserve. A race can reverse the finishing order without reversing the season, and Klunkyboi's P2 ensured Monza did exactly that.
