Jacko no longer has to answer when the first win is coming. He does still have to catch ximqf. The Cadillac driver’s Spain breakthrough cut the D3 championship gap from nine points to two, but two second places have kept the Williams ahead.
That makes Texas a different test for both. Jacko has the victory that had eluded him through thirteen starts; ximqf has a lead built without one. Neither has enough room to treat another podium as a result that will take care of the championship by itself.
Seven points recovered, two still to find
| After round | ximqf | Jacko | ximqf’s lead |
|---|---|---|---|
| Singapore | 24 | 15 | 9 |
| Spain | 47 | 45 | 2 |
The Spain win was convincing enough to make Jacko a clear threat. He finished 7.903 seconds ahead after making one stop to ximqf’s two. The Williams recovered ground late on, but never reached the Cadillac. A second-place finish protected the points lead; it did not leave much of it.
The team fight gives the same contest another edge, with the order reversed. Cadillac lead Williams 64–62, down from a ten-point advantage after Singapore. Jacko’s thirty points won the race, but ximqf and Trident’s second and fourth brought Williams thirty-eight.
That leaves both title hopefuls dependent on more than their own finishing order. Trident has fifteen points and Jan nineteen; those supporting returns are large beside a two-point constructors’ margin. Jan’s Spain retirement left Jacko scoring alone, while Trident gave ximqf the second result Williams needed.
Jacko, ximqf and both team-mates are currently checked in for Texas. Jacko’s first win has brought the leader within reach; ximqf still has that breakthrough to chase himself. He goes into the next round defending just two points against a driver who has already beaten him to the flag.
