MacoDelVolante won the Las Vegas D1 race from third for Red Bull, ahead of xAQxFr and team-mate Marcel Papst. The victory removed 22 points from Sammy278's championship advantage.
Sammy remained first on 134 points, but Maco had closed to 113. A 21-point gap replaced the larger cushion that had existed before Vegas.
The win turns pressure into arithmetic
Maco gained two places to win. The championship consequence was more dramatic: the recorded 22-point swing made the next result capable of changing the character of the title fight again.
Red Bull also placed Marcel Papst third, but Ferrari still led the D1 constructors on 251 points, 30 ahead of Williams. Maco's attack was sharper in the driver table than the team table.
Qatar receives a 21-point contest
Three rounds remained. Sammy retained control, but Maco had converted a single win into the largest immediate change in the leading margin.
Vegas belonged to Maco both as a race winner and a championship aggressor. The two achievements were linked by one exact number: 22 points taken from the lead.
