PolyTromp won Azerbaijan's D1 race from third on the grid and took 21 points out of Darth Ussh's championship advantage. The gap fell from 59 after Qatar to 38 after Round 8.

The podium amplified the swing. Erion finished second after starting 11th and pwjones climbed from 17th to third, leaving Ussh outside the top three while Poly collected the full win score.

McLaren inserts two recoveries

Erion gained nine positions and pwjones gained 14. Their combined 23-place advance produced a McLaren two-three behind Poly and removed the championship leader from the immediate scoring company of his nearest rival.

Poly's total rose to 124 points, while Ussh remained first on 162. The championship did not change hands; its scale changed from a 59-point separation to something 21 points less comfortable.

Williams strengthens both D1 tables

Williams also led the D1 constructors' standings on 223 points, 29 ahead of Cadillac. Poly's win therefore served the individual pursuit and widened the team's divisional lead at the same event.

Azerbaijan did not provide a title change. It provided the more useful mid-season development: proof that a large advantage could be made materially smaller in one classification.
