MagMagnussen moved from P10 to win Australia's E2 race for Aston Martin, turning a seventh IMS start into both a first podium and first victory.
Gennaro1173 gained five places to finish second for Alpine, whose team-mate Rickk116 took third after starting P4.
Six starts without a podium, then the whole staircase
MagMagnussen's first six eligible starts for Aston Martin returned four points and no top-three finish across D1 and E2. The seventh added 30 points and skipped straight from no podium to victory.
The first six starts, all for Aston Martin across D1 and E2, had produced four points and no podium. Australia lifted the totals to 34 points, one podium and one win in a single nine-place change.
P10 becomes an unlikely beginning
The career did not gradually approach the top step. It jumped there from outside the first five rows, making the first notable result the largest one available.
The career record through Australia has an almost comic hinge: six quiet starts on one side, a nine-place charge on the other. MagMagnussen did not edge into contention; the first podium arrived at the very top.
