Ranga20063239 won Monza D2 from second on the grid, securing a first IMS victory for Aston Martin. Ricardo1803 finished second and Brazil winner jakebandy8 fell from pole to third.
The championship order reversed between the opening round and Monza. Ranga began the weekend seven points behind Jake, then finished two places ahead and collected nine more points.
Seven points down becomes two points ahead
Ranga entered the round on 18 points to Jake's 25. The victory raised him to 43, while Jake's third place moved the McLaren driver to 41.
A nine-point swing across the race became a two-point championship lead. It was the first time the D2 order changed hands, and it came through the simplest available mechanism: the challenger won while the leader finished third.
Aston Martin wins while McLaren leads the teams
The individual reversal did not extend to the constructors' table. McLaren led D2 on 47 points, four ahead of Aston Martin, separating Ranga's victory from the broader team contest.
The first Mystery Race arrived with Ranga leading Jake by two and Aston Martin chasing McLaren by four. Monza had produced a winner, a lead change and two contests moving in opposite directions.
